Once you step through the gate of this 17th-century garden villa just off the Grand Canal, you’ll forget you’re just a block from the Accademia. Buffet breakfasts are served on the lawn in summer, sunsets are toasted with a complimentary drink at the bar, and garden swings for two promise romance under the stars. All rooms are comfortably furnished with parquet floors, pale walls and modern bathrooms – but a few are a cut above with four-poster beds, wood-beamed ceilings, even glimpses of the canal. Ask for Thelma, a superior double with its own patch of greenery, named after a regular who loved reading in the garden. Handicap-accessible rooms and wheelchairs available on request.
